the

brief

TRILL Dominos began as more than a mobile game—it was envisioned as a living tribute to Houston hip hop legend Pimp C. Created by Mike Moore, a lifelong friend and collaborator of Pimp C, the project sought to extend his legacy in a way that was interactive, culturally authentic, and fun for fans.

Mike’s history with Pimp C runs deep. From their first meeting at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, to opening MAD Studios in 1999 with his brother Cory Mo, Mike played a pivotal role in recording Pimp’s early solo work, including Live from the Harris County Jail. Later, he became Pimp’s full-time recording engineer and road manager, amassing memories and experiences that shaped the project’s foundation.

The challenge was to take this rich legacy and distill it into a game that resonated both with longtime fans and with younger audiences, blending Houston’s domino culture with hip hop’s visual and sonic vocabulary.

the process

The design process centered on merging cultural authenticity with playability. We studied domino gameplay mechanics to ensure the rules felt true to the experience Houston players know, while also making the interface accessible for mobile audiences.

Visually, we pulled directly from hip hop culture: bold typefaces, gritty textures, and a color palette influenced by the golds, blacks, and purples often associated with Southern rap aesthetics. Subtle nods to Pimp C’s world—iconography from album covers, slang, and his signature style—were layered throughout the design.

We also paid close attention to sound. Audio samples and beats reminiscent of Pimp C’s production style were integrated into the gameplay to create a deeper sense of immersion. Together, the visuals, mechanics, and sound design formed a holistic experience: one that is fun, competitive, and unmistakably trill.
